Julie Bercik joined the 27 First News Team in December 2011 as a video journalist. Before joining WKBN Julie worked at WVIR NBC 29 in Charlottesville Virginia and WLTZ NBC 38 In Columbus, Georgia.
While in Virginia, she covered a wide variety of stories, including the murder of UVA Lacrosse Player, Yeardley Love. Mother Nature also kept Julie busy while in Virginia. She reported on major snow storms, tornadoes and a 5.8 magnitude earthquake. In August 2011, Julie reported live at Virginia Beach as Hurricane Irene hit the area.
In Georgia, Julie also reported on an extensive range of stories, including Kia’s first U.S. Operations Plant in West Point Georgia. Working in Georgia, also gave Julie and inside look at the U.S. Army. She went inside Airborne training at Fort Benning, and interviewed one of the survivors of the original Airborne Test Platoon. She even had the chance to tandem jump with the Silver Wings. While on post, Julie also worked with the Ranger Unit and Wounded Warriors Battalion.
Julie went to school at Kent State University, majoring in broadcast news and minoring in political science. She graduated Kent State University magna cum laude.
